Joy of Sketch new cover.jpg

Book

My book, The Joy of Sketch is my response to anyone who’s ever said to me ‘Oh, I wish I could draw’ and then been (understandably) annoyed at my response that they probably can and should give it a try! But rather than giving complicated lists of materials and ambitious or random subjects, I’ve tried to make it as simple and do-able as possible. Lots of materials you’ll already have and things to draw that may well be right in front of you.

Most children draw. Before we can write, even, we scribble and sketch and create. But somehow that gets lost as we get older. We learn that Being An Artist is hard and complicated, and that there are technical rules to choosing colour and perfecting your perspective. I wrote The Joy of Sketch to hopefully remind you of the joy you once found in creating, scribbling, getting something down on paper – and that it’s really about the process and nothing to do with how technically brilliant the finished ‘artwork’ is.

I hope you like it! Do get in touch with any questions or feedback.
