About and FAQ

I am (not surprisingly) Jen and I draw, illustrate and sketch and then turn those creations into stationery, art prints and other ephemera.

I mostly work with pen, ink and watercolours out of my tiny studio in Surrey.

My style is sketchy, informal and relaxed. I'm inspired by the things that pop up in my garden (bulbs, not fox poo), vintage book illustration and terrible puns.

I prefer ink to pencil, quirky to cutesy, books to box sets.

Frequent Asked Questions

What's your background?

I'm primarily self-taught, but with a little help from a (very distant) art A-Level and a number of short courses at Central St Martin's in London.

I set up my studio to start creating for other people once I realised that I loved making something tangible and useful and ran out of friends and family who needed wedding invitations and new home cards...

How are your illustrations created?

In general I start with sketches (usually in pen, but occasionally pencil if it's very complicated...) to get my ideas down on paper. The sketches are then used to create a final pen and ink drawing using waterproof ink (I use Noodler's Bulletproof) before adding watercolours to the final piece.

If I'm going to be creating prints or using the illustration on stationery it's then scanned and tidied up (if necessary) in Photoshop or Illustrator before being turned into a print-ready document.

What's the process for a bespoke commission?

Once you've sent through your photos or ideas, I'll create some initial sketches to show you my ideas for composition, colour and design which I'll send to you as .pdf documents. You can then make any further suggestions and feedback until we come up with a sketch we're both happy with. Work then starts on the final artwork, probably using the process described above. I'll also send you a scan of the final piece before posting it out to you.

What about printing?

I use an excellent UK-based digital print firm for all my stationery and art prints, which means I can also offer recycled paper if required and an assurance that all the paper we use for printed goods is FSC certified.

How much?

Prices for items in my shop start at £2 for cards, and occasionally even cheaper when I'm clearing stock, having a sale or listing seconds or samples. Keep an eye on my social media to hear about up coming events.

Custom or bespoke artwork will cost from £80, depending on the project. Have a look at some examples on here or in my Etsy shop to see what that £80 will get you, and do feel free to contact me to discuss. I'm always happy to do my best to work to your budget if at all possible.
