Change of Address Cards

As I've mentioned before, I'm quite convinced that having your own bespoke stationery is the utter height of elegance and sophistication. Imagine being so fancy that you don't have to write your address on the top of the paper each time you settle down to your correspondence! (Probably with a china cup of Early Grey at your elbow, as you pen charming thank you notes for recent soirĂ©es at which you were highly diverted by bon mots from the cream of society.) (I have, quite possibly, over thought this.)

Anyway, if you're moving house (or have recently moved and your Royal Mail redirect is about to end and you really don't want to have to renew it) maybe consider some bespoke change of address cards from my Etsy shop! These are customisable to various degrees: blank (still have to write your own address - the humanity!), printed with your new address above my illustration featuring a row of beautiful homes, or printed with your address and a custom portrait of your new house.

Something to suit every budget and which will look perfect stuck to the fridges of your friends and family to make sure all your Christmas cards get to the right place in the future!

House Portraits

As I've said before, I much prefer drawing portraits of houses to people... houses don't mind if their windows are a bit wonky or you've made their roof slightly peaked. They don't tend to care whether you've got the exact ombre of their brickwork or if you've taken a bit of artistic license with the girth of their chimneys...

Building portraits are also the perfect gift for those people you know who've just moved into their dream home, your parents who are downsizing from the family house to a bijou flat, the just-married couple who spent months finding the perfect wedding venue and would love a permanent reminder, or that chap who's really far too attached to his shed... Really, they're the perfect gift for all!

Commission your very own portrait by visiting my Etsy shop, or email me to discuss options.

Christmas Cards + free postage!

As Hallowe'en is now officially over and our pumpkin lantern (affectionately referred to as Mr Pumpy) is slowly deflating in the time-honoured fashion, it's probably acceptable to start thinking about Christmas. Only thinking, obviously, and maybe doing a tiny bit of pre-emptive shopping and planning; I fully endorse saving all the proper festivity and excitement until December.

But to ensure that December has ample time for the important things (drinking anything mulled, plotting wildly inappropriate Secret Santa gifts for colleagues, Lindt chocolate balls, planning what to get in the sales, trying to decide whether you do actually like mince pies, gathering around the piano for a good carolling, locating the festive axe to chop down the tree - delete as appropriate) I also endorse the early purchase of a few lovely Christmas cards from me to share the festive spirit with your nearest and dearest. And if you do them nice and early you can be frugal with a second class stamp!

A mere £3 each for a beautiful, large, square, heavyweight textured card, featuring one of my original illustrations with a kraft envelope. Plus I'm offering free delivery on Christmas cards to UK addresses throughout November with the code NOV15. The link to my Etsy shop is above, or you can click here.

Hallowe'en Familiar

Happy Hallowe'en! Hoping you are all accompanied by a familiar as sinister and slinky as my Vincent Noir as you go about your trick or treating. And if you're not, the situation can be easily remedied by purchasing a beautiful greetings card, framed or unframed giclee print from my shop featuring his furry face...

Twinkle twinkle little sticker...

A veritable constellation of pinky purple stars to illuminate the correspondence of some lucky little girls. I'm sure that having bespoke stationery is one of the signs of true sophistication. (My mother still has some of the very elegant blue notepaper she had printed after her wedding, despite now living somewhere else. And being divorced.)

Also featuring some exciting new packaging. The arrival of new sheets of beautifully printed stickers was probably one of the highlights of my month, if  not year.

Custom notecards similar to these will eventually make it into my Etsy shop (now open again and slowly being restocked) but if you're interested in any in the meantime, do email me. They'd make lovely Christmas presents, and might increase the likelihood of a thank-you note (Grandmas... I'm talking to you...)

Tiny Portrait Gallery

Quick round-up of some of the portraits I've been working on over the summer and not got round to posting... Portraits are usually available via my shop, but as it's (slowly) being renovated at the moment please do email me if you'd like a chat about one instead.

House and Home

A new house gift of a portrait of the old house. House portraits are much simpler than people... less likely to get offended if they don't like how you've drawn their windows.

Follow the white rabbit...

No posts since Easter and now, as I heard someone telling their small child the other day, it's only Some Weeks until Christmas. How remiss of me.

I have been drawing and creating, I promise, just not blogging. The invitations for a wonderful wonderland wedding to be precise, in sunny (and it was sunny!) Dorset.

I love creating bespoke illustrated stationery and, as time allows, am going to try and introduce a range into my shop. But if you're interested and can't wait, do email me for a chat.

Eggs: various

Do people send Easter cards? Is that a thing? If it is, and you do, then I'd like to invite you to consider my Types of Egg illustration, now available as a card in my shop.

I'm currently offering a free card to anyone spending over £5. Just add your preferred design to your basket and use the code SPRING15 on checking out.

(You could also think about liking my facebook page to hear about future discounts and offers before I get round to posting them here.)

Purple Grapefruit

When I was a child there were a few things I used to get muddled. When you're small and the Jurassic period is just as far away as fairy land it's probably quite understandable to not be able to remember whether it was dinosaurs or dragons that were real. Ditto fairies and angels (my family were quite religious, so that was also a real/not real issue...) And, approaching my point here quite laboriously, I also used to get confused between grapefruit and grape hyacinths. Hence my favourite flower was generally announced to be the purple grapefruit that grew outside our sitting room window.

These illustrations are now available in my Etsy shop as an art print and greetings cards which I'll quietly suggest might be perfect for Easter (or Mother's Day if you've not got round to it yet...)

Ah, Romance...

Calendar fans amongst you may have noticed that the 14th February recently occurred, with all the associated romance, roses and chocolates. We have a tradition of visiting the least romantic restaurant in our local area; the all you can eat pan-Asian buffet, which amuses us and means we don't have to spend time trying to think of actually romantic things to do. This year we really cranked up the atmosphere by going at lunchtime and taking the baby. Similarly, I ensured my husband was reminded of the dangers of too much romance by drawing this portrait of baby and me for his card.

Cards! Finally!

Finally, a very select range of greetings cards are now available from my Etsy shop at very reasonable prices. Ideal if you're the sort of person who lives in fear of sending the same card as someone else, but can't resist the lure of Paperchase...

On Coffee

A valuable lesson, I think.

This is going to be available as a print and a card in my shop in the not too distant future, coffee supply allowing.

Sunday Sketchbook #13

Coffee? Tea? Both?

My husband despairs of the fact that I have a very complicated and inflexible ranking for the mugs in our house. Obviously, we have hardly any that match (don't like anything too matchmatchy; each inhabitant of our mug cupboard made its own way there) and I have Strong Opinions as to which are used for what. (Only for myself, others are welcome to whatever barbaric habits they prefer.) To begin with he refused to pander to my fusspot ways, but I have noticed that I now rarely get a drink in an Inappropriate Mug... I guess that's love?

Fun in the Car

I have recently been introduced to Blurb, a site that lets you create your own books.

A friend of mine wrote a little story for her niece and asked me to illustrate it before Blurbing (?) it into a book to be a Christmas present. It was pretty speedy and the quality of the final product is lovely, so thoroughly recommended to anyone out there who's always wanted to see their words/pictures/photos in print but doesn't fancy taking on the publishing industry.

Babies: Various

Babies are very much en vogue amongst my friends and relations at the moment and I keep going back to this chubby little creature and adjusting the colouring to suit.

Also realising it's really quite hard to resist the default blueforboys and pinkforgirls. Orange and purple instead? A cool and sophisticated grey?

Artisan and Pricey

A birthday card I recently drew after one of those conversations where we realised that a large mug of tea and a bacon sandwich are no longer the magic cure-alls they once were for the morning after the night before.

But also seems very apt for this time of year, what with all the abstinence and what have you. I'll raise a wheatgrass shot to all the healthy resolutions!

(I'm hopefully going to add a small selection of cards to my Etsy shop at some point over the next few weeks which should include this one - will update once it's done.)
