Merry Christmas!

Hope you all have a wonderful festive season! (And yes, we are expecting a little addition in the New Year - I haven't just been over-indulging in mince pies during the Christmas prep!)

Christmas Party!

Some illustrations for the lovely people at Media Spaces. Hopefully all your work Christmas parties are just as raucous (and bacon sandwiches plentiful the next morning...)

Winter Bicycling

Bright, sunny, cold wintery days are some of the best for cycling, and I'm missing my commute (just a tiny bit) at the moment.  This young lady, cycling through the pages of my sketchbook, will have to do my riding for me this year.

Sparkle Pigs and Dancing Deer

A lovely commission which is winging its way to two little girls as a Christmas present from their big sister.

Sparkle Pigs and Dancing Deer are creatures they invented during walks through the New Forest, very ancient and magical and a lot of fun to put onto paper.

If you're interested in a commission, no matter how fantastical, do drop me an email.

I'm trying to make an effort to post more of my everyday drawing stuff to Instagram as I love seeing behind the scenes pictures of what other people are working on. So if you'd be interested in glimpses of my work in progress (along with the coffee table and occasional cat-cameos) then please do come and follow me.

Blue scarves

It's obviously cold, all I'm drawing are people who look like they're probably warmer than me...

Siren Song

A little video I did some illustrations for. Looks like an entertaining play!

A number of simultaneously excited newsletters in my inbox have informed me plaid is in this year, although I'm not sure why we're calling it plaid rather than tartan. Is there a difference? Never one to leave a bandwagon un-jumped-upon, I have been sporting this rather aged, rather large shirt around the house.

Sara and Hamzah

A couple of illustrations I was commissioned to do as a first anniversary (paper!) present. Such a lovely opportunity to draw two beautiful wedding outfits!

A whiskey drink

Off to a birthday dinner this evening. This sketch is unfortunately the closest I'll be getting to anything alcoholic...

Wednesday, 2 October 2013

I've not been updating much recently; life has taken over somewhat and left precious little time for drawing. Hopefully though, the woods are now visible in spite of the trees and there'll be more popping up here over the coming months.

One of the big changes has been that I'm now working from home full time. Which pretty much means that I don't have to get dressed most days. I like to think I therefore spend my time resembling some of the beautiful creatures from the Hush catalogue. And as no one actually sees me most days (apart from Keith the postman) to reveal the truth, please imagine me like that.

(This post wasn't sponsored by Hush. I just really like their 'jamas.)

A little illustration commissioned as a wedding present, for a couple called Tim and Tam. For anyone (like me) who didn't know, a TimTam is apparently also an Australian chocolate biscuit. Something a bit like a Penguin bar, I think.

Apparently plaited hairstyles are going to be quite the thing for Autumn this year. If anyone has any tips on how to carry this off without looking like a Swiss goat-girl or a singing nun, please pass them my way...

Drawing (in)

Another little warm up drawing from my sketchbook. I know it's still August, but my mind has started creeping, just a little, towards autumn... Towards coats and boots and things made with apples.

Tom and Lucy

One of my recent time-sensitive commissions, a portrait for a lovely couple who got married this weekend. (And whose wedding I'm still recovering from - too much dancing in heels!)

Friday, 16 August 2013

I've been working on a couple of commissions recently that are a bit date-sensitive and can't be posted yet. So instead,  here's a quick warm-up sketch of a young lady with a bunny head. My first sketches of the morning, to wake up my hand and warm up my pen, tend to be anything that's caught my eye recently... in this case an image that popped up on Pinterest.

I'm not sure what this young lady's thinking about, but it certainly seems quite distracting. Possibly she's just created a new website and is hoping people are going to like it...

Sketchbook: Puck

On Tuesday I found time to pop along to this month's Art Macabre drawing salon at Cass Art Islington. The theme was A Midsummer Night's Scream...

Either I mistake your shape and making quite;
Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite
Call'd Robin Goodfellow: are not you he
That frights the maidens of the villagery;
Skim milk, and sometimes labour in the quern
And bootless make the breathless housewife churn;
And sometime make the drink to bear no barm;
Mislead night-wanderers, laughing at their harm?
Those that Hobgoblin call you and sweet Puck,
You do their work, and they shall have good luck:
Are not you he?
